The idea behind the statement I am ______________., is to generate positive self reflection. The concept is simple yet interactive, allowing the viewer to participate by filling in their own blanks about whom they really are or how they feel about themselves. I believe encouraging positive self-reflection will help fuel individuality and create a healthy way of thinking. Embracing who you are is absolutely beautiful.
As for the creative process, I started by taking a photograph of my best friend and I walking into the sunshine. We are dressed up as fairies and my friend is carrying a hula-hoop, which is one of our creative hobbies. Then I edited the original photo’s contrast and brightness levels. Then I wanted to create a visual element sort of mystical or dreamlike. I created layers of diamond shapes upon themselves with low transparency clouds filling each one. I also divided the picture into 4 sections putting a different texture and filter over each of the sections. The textures are to be subtle yet intriguing. The top right section has the night sky with bits of stars, the bottom right is a fire texture, bottom left corner is waves and the top left corner is some abstract circles. I wanted the overall look of the picture to get the viewer thinking about who they are and what are they good at. I also wanted it to evoke a sense of wonder and spark their creative flow.
